How horses led me
back to

A Life Less Serious

Life doesn’t usually become serious all at once.

It creeps in through effort, expectation, and the cumulative effect of a world that treats work as serious and play as something we grow out of.

A Life Less Serious is not about escaping responsibility, changing your personality, or trying to think more positively. It’s an invitation to see something simpler and more honest about how we experience life, and what becomes possible when we stop believing that effort is the answer to everything.

Guided by lived insight and lessons learned through horses, Sharon J. Crabbe explores why so many of us drift away from ease, curiosity, and presence,  and how we naturally return when we understand how our inner world really works.

You won’t find strategies to fix yourself here, this book offers reflections rather than instructions, clarity rather than techniques.

You may, however, recognise something you’ve always known,  a way of being that feels more natural, more spacious, and more alive.

This book is for anyone who senses there might be another way to live,  one with more joy, love and aliveness.

How it happened.............

Somewhere along the way life had turned into something to manage, to get through. I took things personally, tried hard to be better, thought I needed to work harder to get better results. I took things way too seriously.
Work, responsibility, pressure,  even the things I loved began to feel heavy.

It was my horses who quietly changed that.

What started as “work” with horses gradually became something else entirely. When I stopped trying to control, fix, and achieve, and began to approach my time with them as play — curious, present, and light — something shifted. Not just in my horsemanship, but in how I experienced life itself.

Horses respond to presence. To how you show up. How you are being.
And in learning to meet them there, I began to see how much effort I was bringing into everything else.

How Horses Led Me Back to A Life Less Serious is part memoir, part reflection, and part invitation. It explores how changing perspective — from seriousness to play, from striving to noticing — opened a new path forward. One that felt more honest, more spacious, and more alive.

This book is for anyone who senses there must be an easier way to live…
and is open to discovering that nothing was ever missing.
